About the California Black Women's Health Project
CALIFORNIA BLACK WOMEN’S HEALTH PROJECT, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was established in 1994 as an affiliate of the Black Women’s Health Imperative (formerly National Black Women’s Health Project) based in Washington D.C. We seek to empower women to become active participants in improving their health status.

Our MissionWe are solely committed to improving the health of California's Black women and girls through advocacy, education, policy, and outreach.
We are committed to advocating for policies and practices that promote and improve physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional well-being. Our VisionWe believe a healthier future is possible when women are empowered to make choices in an environment where equal access and health justice are community priorities.

What We Do
TrainWe train Black women to become health advocates through skill-based instruction in community organizing, planning, and engagement.

InformFrom a Black perspective, we educate women about disease prevention, domestic/intimate partner violence, nutrition/fitness, mental health, reproductive health, menopause, and other health issues.

AdvocateWe advocate for policies that address the social determinants of health and aim to eliminate the disparity in Black women’s health status.

AssistWe work collaboratively with community-based organizations to assist with workshops, programs, and data collection/sharing about Black women’s health issues.
